This is a thought that struck me this
morning as I was sitting in our morning service. I need church every
day! Do I need a “church service” every day? Well I guess that
depends on what you mean by a “church service”. Do I need
to be in this building every day with this worship team leading me
and my church family in meaningful worship? Do I need
to sit shoulder to shoulder with my brothers and sisters every day?
Do I need to be
challenged and encouraged by God's truth through the words spoken by
one of our pastors every day like I did this morning?
I am realizing more
and more how vital it is to live daily in community. By this I
certainly don't mean living daily in a cocoon surrounded only by my
brothers and sisters in Christ, but I do need their partnership as I
live and love in this world. I need this more than a couple hour shot
on Sunday morning. Within biblical community I need to wrestle with
truth found in the scriptures and worship my loving Savior. I long
for this in a natural day to day lifestyle. This is church!
It is
refreshing and thrilling to me to get this sort of giddy feeling
when I walk into the room where my brothers and sisters have gathered
to be equipped and worship together. This is my
family in all of their wonderfulness and imperfection. This is my
family that I want to grow with.
This is my family that
I want to reach out to others with and open our arms of love and
grace to. This is my
family that I want the face of Jesus to be seen in by those that
don't know Him yet. This is my
family that I want to become more like Christ with.
Do I
need a “church service” every day? No, not as we typically think
of it. I do need to
welcome the presence of Jesus in my life every day through worship,
truth and prayer. I also need to invite my brothers and sisters to
speak into my life and love me in ways that make me more like Christ.
I do need and long for church every day!
